Orders for manufactured goods decreased 0.9%, following a downwardly revised 0.7% rise in February, the Commerce Department said Friday. Originally, factory orders were seen rising 1.8% in February. Non-defense capital goods orders excluding aircraft increased a second straight month, rising in March 0.4% after surging 4.1% in February. Those bookings are seen as a yardstick for capital spending by businesses. Orders for the year were 23.1% lower. The report showed March factory shipments fell 1.2%.
